While Valeo is better...

While Valeo is better known for headlights and wipers, itò€™s also responsible for some cutting-edge automotive technology ò€“ and now itò€™s made its original equipment lane guidance set-up available as a retro-fit option.

Everything is contained in the Guideoò€™s large standalone box, which is fixed to the inside of the windscreen. Positioning is crucial to ensure it doesnò€™t obstruct your view, while still allowing you to see the digital display screen on the rear.

The unit we tested seemed erratic, often telling us we were too close to a white line that we felt was far enough away. But the adjustable speed setting was a welcome addition, meaning we could disable the device when travelling slowly. Another function is Beep and Watch, which monitors traffic in front when stationary ò€“ such as at roundabouts, traffic lights and in jams.

When the car in front moves off, it emits a beep alert for any day-dreaming drivers ò€“ we found this more annoying than helpful, although it can be muted. The device also records video footage and telemetry data in the event of an accident, and can be fully controlled with the slimline remote.
