At the other end of the scale, Honda and Lexus are highly praised. The only European manufacturer to buck the trend is Skoda, which had excellent ratings across the board, and one model in the overall top five.

Auto Express editor in chief David Johns said: "This year"s Driver Power results show how far ahead Japanese manufacturers are in terms of build quality and reliability. The contrast with the European marques proves that many firms need to make massive improvements."
