The Eighties were full...

The Eighties were full of brash hot hatches, but in the Nineties there was one clear champion: the Clio Williams.

Brit James Thompson...

Brit James Thompson scored a memorable debut win for Honda in the World Touring Car Championship at Imola, Italy. The ex-BTCC champ scorched from fifth on the grid to finish ahead of the BMW of Jorg Muller and Chevroletò€™s Rob Huff in the dayò€™s second outing. This was the highlight of a good weekend for the Japanese squad, after Thompson took third place in the opening race, behind the SEATs of Rickard Rydell and eventual winner Yvan Muller, who now has a 12-point lead in the standings.

The much-anticipated...

The much-anticipated model - identified by the "D" on the bootlid - should achieve at least 35mpg, thanks in part to its lightweight aluminium chassis. Powered by a modified version of the 204bhp 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 from the S-Type, the XJ D will be no slouch. Fitted with the S"s automatic gearbox and boasting around 435Nm of torque, expect the car to hit 0-60mph in less than eight seconds. Impressive mid-range acceleration and a top speed in excess of 140mph are also on the cards.

What a way to celebrate...

What a way to celebrate your 50th birthday! MINI is set to unveil a raft of special editions to mark five decades since the original baby Brit was launched.

The newcomers will be unleashed at the brandò€™s MINI United event at Silverstone in Northants from 22-24 May. Star of the show will be an uprated John Cooper Works hatch ò€“ as itò€™s also 50 years since motorsport legend John Cooper built his first Formula One race car.

The special JCW gets unique F1 badges and British Racing Green paint, with black bonnet stripes and a Pepper White roof and mirrors. As the mechanicals wonò€™t be touched, the special will provide the same sizzling performance as the standard JCW, with its 1.6-litre turbo delivering 208bhp to the front wheels through a six-speed box.

MINI is refusing to reveal any more details about the limited edition, although a spokesman did confirm that the JCW F1 would line up alongside an undisclosed number of other specials at MINI United.

And five lucky readers will get to see the new cars in the flesh, as weò€™re giving away tickets to the event ò€“ which includes music from rock legend Paul Weller. See our Product Awards special issue, on sale 13 May, for full details.
