A crackdown on uninsured...

A crackdown on uninsured motorists has been launched by the Department for Transport. The initiative links the DVLA"s vehicle register and the Motor Insurance Database, so police can discover which cars are on the road uninsured. Officers can seize the offenders" vehicles and, in some cases, have the models crushed.

It’s an obvious question, but it’s one I’m embarrassed to answer: “What sumptuous machines have you got in your garage, Tiff?”. I know I’m expected to own either a Porsche or a Ferrari, or probably both. And I simply hate to disappoint, but the truth is it’s... well, a Honda quad bike and the flail mower I tow behind it! Of course there are a couple of cars in the drive – the well worn family Mercedes ML320 SUV with 105,000 miles on the clock and my latest long-term test machine, a manual BMW 550i. But that’s it. And it does make me feel a bit guilty. As a true petrolhead, I feel I really ought to have something really special. But what...?

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Audi"s quattro system, and the RS4 gets the latest generation of the four-wheel-drive layout. Previous RS models have also used all-wheel drive for maximum traction, including the twin-turbo RS6 and RS4. The first car to wear the RS badge was the RS2 Avant of 1993, which had a Porsche- modified five-cylinder engine with 315bhp. At the time it was the world"s fastest car, racing from 0-30mph in 1.5 seconds.
