From a C3-based supermini-MPV to a toboggan using parts from various Citroens! The company has constructed this sledge out of a C4 Picasso’s rear seat, a C3 steering wheel, a C3 Pluriel’s roof pillars and a spoiler from a C4 Coupé.

In 1986, I travelled on a train I didn"t like to a place I didn"t know for the opening of a car factory I just didn"t get. Nissan building a plant in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, made no sense to me back then. However, it has since proved itself to be one of the most efficient in Europe. Wind forward 21 years, and I"m in another unlikely place, witnessing the formal opening of another, even more impressive motor factory. It could and should have been in the UK. But since our leaders are so blatantly anti-car, Europe"s most impressive vehicle production facility is on Slovakian, not British, soil.

At a recent BCA sale, a 2003 dual-fuel Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 LS (image) with 85,000 miles on the clock fetched ÷£4,000 - which is the guide price for a conventional car. The current duty on liquefied petroleum gas is a mere 4.5 pence per litre, compared with 47.1 pence per litre on petrol and diesel - a differential that the Government has pledged can be reduced by only 1p per year between now and 2009.

This is the first official...

This is the first official picture of Kia"s new production-ready cee"d SW, the model that takes centre stage on the Korean firm"s Geneva Motor Show stand next month.

Designed and built in Europe, the new estate was first shown in near-showroom ready form at the Paris Motor Show last year. Since then, Kia has put the finishing touches to the design and is ready to launch the load-lugger in the summer.

At 4.5 metres in length, the cee"d SW is a substantial 235mm longer than the five-door. The extra millimetres have been added behind the rear seats, which results in a 534-litre luggage capacity - nearly 200 litres more than the hatchback. Kia has also added 10mm to the roof to boost space even further. To allow buyers to make the most of the extra room, the tailgate hinges have been moved forward from the edge of the roof. This leaves a larger opening to get luggage and bulky items inside.

Prices have yet to be announced, but the new model will be available in S, GS and LS trims. Meanwhile, the sporty three-door cee"d will complete the hatchback line-up later this year.
