As they reveal, the new model borrows much of its design from its Discovery big brother, but mixes traditional styling cues from the original Freelander, resulting in a fresh, but instantly recognisable, look. That"s clear at the front, where the pronounced grille and bumper blends with Discovery-style projector headlights to give a strong face.

The in-car stereo giant...

The in-car stereo giant has listened to its consumer research and reduced the number of controls as well as widening the range of sounds the DUB278RMP can play.

It looks great, with the bare minimum of knobs and buttons. But it has substance to go with its style, as it’s compatible with all the latest music formats.

The AM/FM RDS radio tuner has a 24-station preset memory. It also plays both CD-Rs and CD-RWs, in addition to MP3 and WMA digital music files. iPods can be con÷nected via a front-mounted auxiliary input, and there’s a USB port for access to the internal hard disk. This can store up to 15,000 songs.

And the long spec tally doesn’t end there. The ID3-TAG display will show what track and artist you’re listening to on the display, and the screen itself offers a choice of 728 colours, so you can match it to your dashboard instruments.

On top of all this, the Clarion has a compact built-in 4x50W amplifier that provides superb sound clarity. The system also features the firm’s Magna Bass EX facility, which gives extra low-frequency impact. And finally, there’s the Z-Enhancer. This comprises three presets to deliver improved bass or treble, or both.
