A special torture track, riddled with potholes and cobbles, has been reproduced at the company"s Stuttgart proving ground from the original Heide Road in Germany, which Mercedes first used for testing 50 years ago.

The filling stations are going under the brand name Shell Express - but not all customers are in favour. Critics say there is nobody to talk to face-to-face if things go wrong, and it"s thought the large underground storage tanks could be targeted by thieves, who"d sell the fuel on the black market.
A Shell spokeswoman told Auto Express there were currently no plans to introduce unmanned sites in Britain.
