With a deep front splitter...
With a deep front splitter, low side skirts and high rear wing, it"s more aggressive looking than ever - and the style is backed up by the dynamics. Using the same 3.6-litre flat six-cylinder unit as the outgoing model, engineers have increased airflow through the engine and upped power from 381bhp to 415bhp at 7,600rpm.
The car is based on...
The car is based on the Simba concept, which first appeared at the 2002 Bolgona Motor Show. It has a higher ride height than the standard model, while chunky wheelarch extensions, thick side protectors and underbody strike plates will give it plenty of off-road protection. The pictures also show how the 4x4 has a mounting point for an optional front bullbar.
Inside, the rugged theme will continue, with rubber mats and hard-wearing upholstery. Extra facia dials will mark the car out from its stablemate. The 4x4 will probably be available only with the 70bhp 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from the Punto and Idea, and set to be offered in UK Pandas later this year. The permanent 4WD system will have a low-range gearbox, making the car ideal for farmers. Expect the newcomer to cost around í‚á£9,000.
