If in doubt, go without. That"s this year"s warning to motorists who can"t calculate their alcohol limit behind the wheel. The Govern-ment"s THINK! Campaign, launched last week by Transport Secretary Alistair Darling, is a sobering reminder that drink-drive deaths are on the increase. Drivers are being warned to be extra careful the day after a night out on account of extended licensing laws.

The car features electronically controlled four-wheel drive, which only engages at all corners when it"s needed. Fold-flat seats increase interior practicality and there will be a choice of three engines at launch - a 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol and a pair of 2.2-litre D-4D oil-burners, which produce 136bhp and 177bhp respectively. A spokesman for the Japanese firm told us: "There"s no confirmation of a three-door model yet."

More far-fetched was the convertible Sport Utility Concept from German firm Karmann. Based on BMW X5 underpinnings, the SUC was billed as a "road-ready concept car". It features barn-style doors, and a drop-top with glass sunroof.
