Team boss Gerhard Berger...

Team boss Gerhard Berger admits that last year’s pairing of Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed is in pole position to retain the seats, but says he’s in no rush to nom÷inate either of them officially.

Berger’s reticence is fuelling speculation that he could be seeking

a sponsored racer such as Tiago Monteiro to fund his team – something the Austrian strongly denies.

Monteiro lost his drive at MF1 Spyker just before Christmas when the Dutch squad opted to promote its part-time tester, Adrian Sutil, to line up alongside Chistijan Albers for the new season. The promising 23-year-old German secured last year’s Japanese Formula Three crown after finishing as runner-up to McLaren’s new hopeful, Lewis Hamilton, in the 2005 European F3 series. Sutil had been destined to follow his Uruguayan-born father into a musical career. He trained and practised as a concert pianist until he was 14, when he discovered karting. “From then on, the sound of racing engines was the only music I wanted to hear,” he said.
