The í‚á£50,000, 3.0-litre V6-powered two-seater is the brainchild of former Land Rover employee Andy Nowson, and the Birmingham NEC show on 14 and 15 January is the first to be attended by the firm. Nowson plans to set up a Midlands base to produce the car.

The Italdesign-Giugiaro Toyota Alessandro Volta is a supercar, but with a difference. It"s a hybrid-electric vehicle using the same powertrain as the Lexus RX400h, which arrives at the end of the year. As well as a battery mounted on each axle, it has a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine. Together, they develop 402bhp.

The replacement load-lugger will appear at September"s Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale soon after. It follows on from the Passat saloon - officially seen already, but set to make its public debut at March"s Geneva event.

Production of Kia"s...

Production of Kia"s cee"d family hatchback has started at a plant in Zilina, Slovakia, which cost one billion Euros.

The site was opened last week in a lavish ceremony attended by Kia boss Euisan Chung, Zilina Mayor Jan Zolta and 1,500 production staff. When fully operational, the factory will produce up to 12,500 examples of the car each month.
