Prior to the introduction of charging in August 2002 the RAC Foundation measured traffic speeds of just 2.9mph on several key routes. Our photographers saw...

Our photographers saw this undisguised two-door as it was put through its paces by engineers - and it leaves little to the imagination. Based on the saloon, the sporty coupé"s more pronounced grille helps to identify the newcomer, and combines with a subtly revised bumper and new headlights to give a more purposeful look. Other BMW styling cues include the hockey-stick C-pillars and sweeping profile.

The mags scoop also reveals the look of the forthcoming 3-Series flagship, the 335Ci. Powered by a fresh 3.0-litre 330bhp turbo, the newcomer will head a range which will also use top-end units from the existing saloon line-up.

Performance fans will have to wait for the flagship M3 version, though - it will feature a 400bhp V8 powerplant, and should arrive in dealers next year.
