Meet the next great...

Meet the next great American hero! After all the renderings, spyshots and speculation the Devon GTX has finally broken cover at the Pebble Beach Concours dò€™Elegance.

Bearing more than a passing resemblance to the now defunct Dodge Viper, the GTX was close to being badged a Viper when Devon lodged a bid to buy the name from GM. But instead itò€™s had to settle for borrowing a number of classic American supercar design cues.

The stretched bonnet, sloping snout and muscular rear haunches give it a familiar stance, but the on-paper figures suggest it should go like nothing else. Under the steel structure and carbon-fibre body sits an 8.4-litre V10 sending 650bhp to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

When the GTX goes on sale in the US next year two versions will be available, a standard model and a firmer, lighter track-biased variant, with the latter commanding an extra Ò£15,000.

Devon plans to build a total of 36 cars a year guaranteeing its exclusivity. But with a price of around Ò£300,000 only the extremely wealthy need apply!
