Inside, the A8

will debut Audiò€™s updated MMI system which includes a touch-sensitive pad that can be used to control navigation functions. There"s a new, larger LCD navigation screen, and for the first time, ambient lighting.

Engine choices include a development of the existing

carò€™s 4.2-litre FSI petrol V8, plus a new 4.2-litre diesel offering CO2 emissions of 199g/km and a staggering 800Nm of torque.

Technological highlights include an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an accident prevention system that uses a system of cameras to help the driver avoid trouble, plus a night vision system to help prevent pedestrian collisions. There are also LED equipped lights, similar in technology to those that first appeared on the A8.

On sale in the UK in April, prices for the newcomer are still to be confirmed. However Audi bosses are promising the car will be only fractionally more expensive than the current model when it hits showrooms.

The new A8 also spearheads a new push by Audi on the luxury car market. Later in 2010, it will be joined by the hatchback Audi A7, spied by Auto Express here...

Our images also confirm the design we first revealed in a set of exclusive scoop shots, and show a daring design and an

aggressive makeover for the nose.

It"s expected that this look will be carried over to the next

A6 and A4, due in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
