You won"t fit behind...

You won"t fit behind the wheel, but this remote-controlled model of the luxury maker"s drop-top is the next best thing - and the price tag is nowhere near the ÷£130,500 of the 552bhp W12-engined original. Launched this week, the 1:10 scale replica has an authentic sounding Continental engine note and the front lamps light up. Get one at www.bentleymotors.co.uk or through Bentley dealers.

Get used to seeing this...

Get used to seeing this picture - it"s part of this year"s festive drink-drive campaign. It shows two drinkers, each marked out like a measuring jug, but at different levels. The message to motorists is that it"s impossible to estimate your alcohol limit, and that it takes less than you think for your abilities to be impaired. Leaflets, posters and TV ads will be backed up by messages printed on milk cartons, in off-licences and at selected pubs.

Created by paper craftsman Sheung Yee, it"s an origami kit that can be built into a life-size working V8 - powered by batteries. "It took a year to design and construct," explained Yee, of Montreal, Canada. "Each part is precisely made."

It’s supplied...

It’s supplied in a heavy-duty case, and features a multi-position ‘D’ handle, and a six-inch backing plate with a Velcro base, making pad swapping simple. Polishing pads come in a variety of grades –from very soft to more abrasive for harsher polishes or mild cutting agents. Disappointingly, though, none was included, and at ?13 each plus the machine price, the package is clearly aimed at real enthusiasts and concours competitors.

It worked very well on our big test panel, applying polish effectively and buffing up to an even finish – in a way that would take much longer and more effort manually. The motor felt strong and we found it impossible to create unwanted swirls or make it dig in (the benefit of a dual-action unit).

We’d have preferred a ‘dead-man’s’ on/off control rather than a conventional switch. What’s more, at 5kg, it’s no lightweight – which guarantees aching arms after working on vertical panels.
