Instead of 250cc in...

Instead of 250cc in the original, the new GTS has a 125cc powerplant – so most motorists will be able to ride it after only a single day’s Compulsory Basic Training.

The engine switch has not altered the Vespa’s styling, which harks back to the Fifties’ model with its rounded headlamp, naked handlebars, chrome mudguard, alumin?ium footpegs and light on the front shield.

Under the skin, though, it’s bang up-to-date, with the four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled Leader 125cc engine delivering 14.3bhp and meeting Euro IV emissions regulations. It should be good for speeds of up to 60mph.

The Vespa GTS is available in Midnight Blue, Excalibur Silver, Dragon Red and plain black, and options include a leather and canvas inner bag for the top box, plus a fly screen, chrome kit – comprising front and rear carriers – front and side protection and a forward bumper guard.
