Finding the greenest used cars will be made easier, if a new scheme from HPI is a success. The vehicle history data company has introduced its own eco-sheets, containing environmental information about used models. They’re free to dealers, and follow a similar design to those for new cars to help second-hand buyers see CO2 emissions more easily.

In a reversal to the...

In a reversal to the bad news earlier this year - the cutbacks and closures at Vauxhall, TVR and Peugeot plants in the UK - Ford has announced a ÷£100 million investment to produce a new premium 3.2-litre six-cylinder power unit at Bridgend.

The compact straight-six engine, dubbed the SI6, will first go into the high-end Volvo S80 and XC90 sports utility vehicle.

Ford expects production of the engine to hit 209,000 units a year, alongside the 78,100 V8 engines that the Welsh factory already makes, and for total volume from the plant to get to the million mark by 2009. It also expects the workforce of 1,629 assemblers to increase by 250 by the end of 2008.

Since the plant was opened in May 1980, it has built the engines for 13,000,000 Ford customers.
