However, with sales on a downward spiral last year, Chrysler doesn"t need that many in 2006, and is in "production and associated compensation" discussions with the German firm.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, bosses at Vauxhall should be delighted - but they"re not. Parent firm GM is considering taking legal action against a Chinese car manufacturer for breach of copyright over the design of a recently launched SUV. Vauxhall claims the eastern model, called the Land Wind and made by Jiangling, looks rather too similar to the Frontera soft-roader that used to be sold.
