Hi-tech new safety kit...

Hi-tech new safety kit from Volvo warns motorists when it’s time to take a break.

Bosses claim driver fatigue and distraction are to blame for up to 90 per cent of road accidents. But they hope the systems, which trigger alerts when they spot dozy driving, will help cut crash rates.

The Lane Departure Warning and Driver Alert Control kits use a camera to monitor the car’s position between road markings. Sensors can tell if the owner loses control, and the system sounds an alarm and displays an alert on the instrument panel. The set-up is a ÷£500 option on the V70 and S80.
