Fancy sliding around in a powerful, rear-wheel-drive car and drawing pictures with the black lines your tyres leave behind?
David Williams, from...
David Williams, from Buckinghamshire-based fleet sales value calculator Carcost, told us: "Most people think diesels only make sense for high-mileage drivers, but the majority would be better off going for derv."
A Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi Zetec costs í‚á£900 more than the 1.25 Zetec petrol, but covering 12,000 miles a year it works out í‚á£828 better value overall after three years. If the derv model is cheaper, the savings are greater.
A Land Rover Discovery 2.7 TDV6 HSE costs í‚á£5,000 less than the 4.4 V8 new. After three years it"s cheaper to the tune of í‚á£8,784. Williams said: "Because diesels are more economical and depreciate less, the cost of ownership is usually much lower than a petrol."
