The new ÷£3.5m five-floor facility (image) is the last UK home for British-built models waiting at Southampton docks to be shipped abroad.
Currently, the Spyder...
Currently, the Spyder is planned only for the US. But Britain"s appetite for convertibles means the Japanese firm"s UK arm is considering officially importing the exciting new model here.
Along with the Sportback concept car, the Eclipse follows Mitsubishi"s bold fresh design direction which first appeared on the Colt hatchback. The Eclipse takes this original plan further and includes styling cues from the E-Boost hybrid coup탩 such as an aggressive nose, swooping body and sculptured flanks. The convertible has a reshaped rear to accommodate the electrically operated roof. US versions of the Spyder are likely to use a 263bhp 3.8-litre V6. The vehicle"s performance will enable it to compete with key roadster rivals such as the Nissan 350Z and Audi TT.
However, if the car comes here, the V6 may be swapped for a four-cylinder turbo based on the Lancer Evolution"s motor. And even if the model doesn"t officially hit UK shores, it will probably still be available via grey importers. Either way, expect it to cost from around í‚á£29,000.
