Porsche has announced...

Porsche has announced a limited edition version of its acclaimed Cayman S mid-engined coupe. Going on sale in November, the “Porsche Design Edition 1”÷  will be a special series of just 777 cars worldwide, dominated by an all-black design motif running through the car, and each identified by a badge on the lid of the glove box. Cosmetically the influence of the Porsche Design Studio has resulted in a lot of dark materials: there"s black leather and Alcantara upholstery, a black centre console, fascia console, and door trims, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara. The Porsche logo crest is embossed on the seat headrests, and the instrument dial layout echoes that of Porsche Design timepieces.

Classic cars don’t...

Classic cars don’t get any younger – but a group of enthusiasts hopes to change that. They’ve started an online petition to move the cut-off date for road tax exemption.

Currently, owners of vehicles registered before January 1973 (above) don’t have to pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). But under the old system, axed 10 years ago, all models over 25 years of age were exempt. The group wants the cut-off date moved forwards 10 years so all pre-1983 cars no longer attract VED. Visit petitions.pm.gov.uk/ClassicRoadTax/ if you agree.

RED-BLOODED Alfa Romeo is removing the red tape from its warranty scheme. The brand has overhauled procedures to make it easier than ever to get problems sorted out without charge.

Official documents show that 90 per cent of all claims under the revised scheme will be approved automatically. Meanwhile, Alfa bosses hope to clear up problem cases faster than ever. The firm

is working hard to improve its reputation for customer service, and has sacked underperforming dealers in a bid to raise standards.

ACCORDING to our insiders, parents are being forced out of their off-roaders because of their children. Environmentally conscious kids don’t need much persuading that 4x4s are bad news, and it seems many are being bullied by school friends if their parents drive one.

As a result, they nag their parents to get rid of the SUV and replace it with something less controversial! Expect price drops in big cities soon...
