The most important Big Cat ever has finally leapt into view. After months of spy shots and a sensational concept model, the eagerly anticipated replacement for the Jaguar S-Type has finally broken cover – and Auto Express has the full story.

The much-anticipated...

The much-anticipated model - identified by the "D" on the bootlid - should achieve at least 35mpg, thanks in part to its lightweight aluminium chassis. Powered by a modified version of the 204bhp 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 from the S-Type, the XJ D will be no slouch. Fitted with the S"s automatic gearbox and boasting around 435Nm of torque, expect the car to hit 0-60mph in less than eight seconds. Impressive mid-range acceleration and a top speed in excess of 140mph are also on the cards.

But I know this: the Eastern bloc has taken over from Britain as the number one location in Europe for big, ambitious companies to set up shop if they"re looking for a friendly pro-car welcome, low-tax Governments and capable, willing workers.
