Based on the new Corvette Z06, the car has acceleration to rival the most exotic machinery from Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. It uses a supercharged version of the Z06"s 7.0-litre V8, and promises to be the most powerful car General Motors has ever built.
The engine is mated to an uprated six-speed manual gearbox, while the extended bodywork includes carbon-fibre panels to reduce weight.
As a result, the US challenger should be capable of sprinting from 0-100mph in less than nine seconds and hitting a top speed of around 200mph - similar figures to the Lamborghini Murci탩lago.
The brainchild of GM vice chairman Bob Lutz and Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill, the Blue Devil project has yet to be confirmed by GM - but the mag"s pictures show that development is well underway. Indeed, its handling should more than live up to the performance - rumour has it that the newcomer has been posting stunning lap times at the Níƒá¼rburgring in the hands of Corvette GT racer Jan Magnussen.
The Blue Devil will cost approximately í‚á£60,000 in the US, and should make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January. Limited UK sales - in left-hand-drive form only - are likely, and buyers can expect a price of around í‚á£80,000.
