British drivers are shunning alternatively fuelled cars. The latest DVLA statistics show that there were only 28,150 privately owned motors in this category in 2006 – a mere 0.08 per cent of the 33.4 million licensed vehicles in the UK.

An exclusive spy image in the current issue of the mag reveals the revised version of the popular Ford workhorse. And it"s clear from the image that the minibus variant is wearing the face of the next-generation Mondeo.
First revealed on the 427 concept seen at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show, the new front end will make an appearance on the fourth incarnation of Ford"s top-selling family model. Due to be officially launched in 2006, the all-new Mondeo will be based on a heavily modified version of the Volvo S60 platform. Although the larger family car sector is in decline, as more buyers opt for people carriers and off-roaders, Ford is adamant that its next Mondeo will be worth waiting for. Speaking at the Paris Motor Show last week, the blue oval"s design guru J Mays explained: "The new Mondeo will be a new signature car for Ford. Much like the original Focus, it will completely transform the company"s design language. People will raise their eyebrows."
Along with the conventional model, the Mondeo will spawn a range of spin-off variants. These will include a Volvo XC90-style SUV, as well as a seven-seater MPV, replacing the Galaxy and likely to be called the E-MAX.
To keep customers interested in the hatch and saloon, Ford will attempt to move the Mondeo upmarket. So the car will be placed in competition with the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class.
