According to our sources, this is what"s happening at MG Rover. Auto Express has learned that although Nanjing Automobile paid a í‚á£5million deposit to acquire the firm, the outstanding í‚á£50m for the purchase has yet to be received by administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
PwC declined to comment, but our source said: "Nanjing has entered into an irrevocable agreement to buy MG Rover"s assets. There is no set date for completing the deal, and no question about Nanjing"s ability to pay.
"Its largest shareholders own more than 80 per cent of the assets of Jiangsu province, which is about the size of the UK, so funding isn"t a problem." According to another source, Nanjing is currently in discussions with the GB Sportscar Company about its plans to produce MG Rovers in the Midlands. Despite the talks, the future of the Longbridge factory is unclear. Chinese representatives entered the plant recently, apparently removing equipment to ship back to China.
