At the last minute, Ford group bosses ordered a logo for the Swedish firm, 20 feet above the show hall floor, to be covered. This was to prevent it shining down on sister firm Aston Martin"s international reveal of the Vanquish S Ultimate next door. Minutes after the conference, crews were busy taking down the white sheeting again.

A silver, five-door Astra (pictured) is the four millionth car to roll off Vauxhall"s production line in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. It will be delivered to a customer in Huddersfield, W Yorks.
Since 1962, the plant has built some of the firm"s best-known models, including the Chevette and Vectra. A spokesman said: "It"s a fantastic achievement by the workforce."
