At a recent BCA sale, a 2003 dual-fuel Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 LS (image) with 85,000 miles on the clock fetched ÷£4,000 - which is the guide price for a conventional car. The current duty on liquefied petroleum gas is a mere 4.5 pence per litre, compared with 47.1 pence per litre on petrol and diesel - a differential that the Government has pledged can be reduced by only 1p per year between now and 2009.

A new 140bhp 1.8-litre...

A new 140bhp 1.8-litre petrol engine is being offered by Vauxhall. It will debut in the next-generation Zafira, which goes on sale in July, but will eventually be rolled out across other models in the range. The new Ecotec unit has 14 per cent more power than the motor it replaces, yet is more fuel-efficient.
